THE PICTURE ON THE RIGHT: “Outside the Lines”
Margaret Kyle, the artist, says about this piece: “For me the painting is about a faith that is transformational – not ever finished, never done with exploration and change. Are the more structured stained-glass diamonds at the top of the painting breaking down into a gush of water-like swirls and colors or is the gush of lines and swirls moving upward to form the stained glass diamonds?”
EDUCATIONAL OPPORTUNITIES
During January and early February we have two special adult education events. How about taking advantage of at least one of them?
Sundays, January 10-31 at 9:00 a.m.
o “Fed and Forgiven” in the Library, led by Jenny Romens Erickson. Deepen your understanding of and appreciation for this holy meal in which we participate each month.
Thursdays, January 14 – February 11 at 6:30 p.m.
o “Chasing Daylight” in the Library, led by Ann Roush and Pastor Jim. Discover the difference between living a life of purpose and adventure, and living one of apathy and missed opportunity.
EMPTY SOUP BOWL LUNCHEON
On Sunday, January 24 after church we will have a guest speaker, Brydie Hill, director of Project Kenya Charity. We will have an Empty Bowl soup luncheon and a presentation while we eat. A beautiful ceramic bowl is purchased for $10.00. One bowl per family is needed. Each additional person is $2.00.
Project Kenya Charity works with schools, communities, villages and medical facilities to provide supplies, support and assistance. All the proceeds of the luncheon will go towards the villages the project works with.
Sue Vornholt will be traveling to Kenya this summer to assist in setting up a village library and she will have the opportunity to teach at an elementary school.
A REMINDER
All committees and groups need to submit their annual reports to Audrey at the church office ----- actually by last Monday.
A PRAYER
How we long to be affirmed, O God,
to be told we are loved and valued.
To hear such words would be
almost too good to be true.
Strengthen our hearts
to hear your voice
speaking those words to us.
Open our hearts
to cling to your all-embracing love.
Amen
